Intelligence: This is the PCs mental ability: memory, assessing situations, using logic. For magic users, INT affects both maximum spell numbers and maximum spell levels. The INT bonus (if any) is the multiplier that spell casters use for determining number of cantrips usable per day (INT bonus times MU level). For thieves, INT affects some skills. For all characters, Intelligence affects number of languages known. PCs with an INT score of 7 or less can only speak their native tongue and PCs with an INT score of 5 or lower cannot read or write.
Wisdom: This is the PCs perceptive ability: insight, intuition, ability to draw on experience. For clerics, WIS determines maximum spell level they can cast. Thieves depend on WIS for some of their skills. For everyone, WIS is important for some saving throws and for the Sanity rules (See Sanity below).
Dexterity: This is the PCs physical grace: balance, fine motor skills. Thieves depend on DEX for some of their skills. DEX affects Armor Class, Missile Fire attack rolls, initiative rolls and some saving throws. PCs with a DEX of 12 or better may be able to fight with two weapons, though generally with a penalty on the second weapon.
Constitution: This is the PCs general health: wellness, physique, stamina, endurance. The PCs CON modifier affects hit points and some saving throws (all PCs earn at least 1 hp per level, no matter what their CON penalty might be). Characters with a CON of 5 or less will receive double damage from poison and disease.
Charisma/Personality: This is the PCs character: willpower, personality, charm, wit. CHA/PER affects some saving throws, reaction rolls, number of retainers allowed,
Charm, strength of will, persuasive talent. Personality affects some saving throws for all characters. Personality affects reaction rolls.
Luck: Luck is, well, luck: the PC's innate talents, skill and just plain, dumb luck. Luck points affect the game in a variety of ways detailed under the heading _____________, Using Luck.
Piety: Piety measures a character's standing with a deity. The PCs PTY score for a new character is rolled randomly. PTY totals increase and decrease during the course of play. PTY is particularly important to Clerics and Paladins but can be important to any character. Piety points are used in a variety of ways detailed under the heading _____________________, Using Piety.
I prefer Charisma to be "Personality" in the sense of the PCs force of will or strength of character or something gameable... that doesn't take away from the player's defining the PC however he or she wants to. I really don't want to assign the Comeliness score idea. I'll leave that to the player, or to a random table if the player chooses.
Luck will work something akin to DCC RPG. I found Piety in a couple sources around the web and have kind of mashed together my own ideas for that.
This page is a work in progress.
